| Ernest Bevin goes from strength to strength |

GCSE results for the whole of England published last week show that Ernest Bevin College has yet again increased the number of pupils getting five or more GCSEs at A*-C grade (including English and Maths), to a record 61% of pupils. This is an increase of 35% since 2005, making Ernest Bevin the 5th most improved school in the country at GCSE, since 2005. 84% of pupils achieved 5 A-C grades at GCSE, excluding English and Maths. Sadiq Khan MP, a former pupil at the school said, “I'm delighted that Ernest Bevin has seen such a big rise in its results – not just last year but over the last three years. ‘It’s the 5th most sustained improved school in the whole country, and is a testament to the hard work and dedication of all the pupils and staff at the school, including the co-principals Mike Chivers and Rukhsana Sheikh. “Thanks to a long period of investment by the government, and the hard work of teachers and pupils, our local schools continue to go from strength to strength. “Exam results continue to improve, school buildings and facilities have been transformed, and more young people than ever are staying on in education.” Mike Chivers, Co-Principal of Ernest Bevin College said, “We were really pleased with the results, which are the result of hard work and high expectations of the pupils, from staff, the parents and the pupils themselves. "These improvements have come in large part thanks to increased funding for the school in recent years, which has furnished us with the support and the resources to provide a better education for our young people and their families." |
