Sadiq recently visited Seagull Print in Earlsfield to take a look round a unique organisation whose work is directly helping to improve the lives of many people who have mental health problems in the Tooting community.
Launched in 1991, Seagull offers a range of competitive commercial print services.
But what is unusual about Seagull is the people who help run it. By allowing people who have mental health problems and live in the Wandsworth area to work as 'employment trainees,' the business also acts as a rehabiliation service by providing workers with good quality employment training within a real sustainable business environment.
Sadiq Khan said, “Seagull’s story is truly inspirational.”
“They are a brilliant model for social care and rehabilitation, helping their trainees overcome often serious mental health problems and take control of their lives again.
“The training they provide is excellent and gives their trainees lifelong transferable skills, helping many people back into paid employment and a stable healthy life.
“It also provides an invaluable community and support network for some of the most vulnerable members of our society.”
