Your Labour Councillors have welcomed plans to make Mitcham Road safer. In the last three years more than 80 people have been injured on Mitcham Road, 25% of these seriously. Among the ideas that the council will now consult on are: banning traffic from turning right into Byton Road, removing railings by the pavement and making traffic islands safer. Cllr. Andy Gibbons said, "It really is time that Mitcham Road became a better place for pedestrians. With 15,000 vehicles a day, we must make sure that people can always cross the road safely."
