Sadiq Khan MP is encouraging local families to commit to change and sign up for the Fitter Families initiative, led by Gladiators host and former England striker, Ian Wright MBE. Sadiq has himself signed up to the initiative and it will see him making small sustainable changes to further improve his fitness.
Families can sign up at www.fitterfamilies.com and commit to simple, achievable and sustainable changes to their lifestyle, such as walking to school or taking the dog for a walk, which will increase their fitness over the long term.
If none of us change our habits, 60% of the nation will be obese by 2050, with an increased risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer.
Sadiq Khan MP said: “Family fitness is a crucial issue.”
“Constituents often tell me that they find it hard to find time for a rigorous exercise regime or diet, which often don’t last. Small commitments like these are realistic and sustainable and could really help to improve people’s fitness over time.”
“I’ll be signing up to Fitter Families and seeing if I can make small sustainable changes to my lifestyle to further improve my fitness, and I encourage my constituents to do the same.”
Ian Wright commented: “I think that it’s important people in Tooting have the chance to commit to change and that’s why role models are so important. Sadiq is setting a great example to families and I want to hear how it goes. This is all about making small changes for a better, healthier lifestyle, not running a marathon or giving up sweets! This means Simple, Achievable and Sustainable changes for the long term future health of your family.”
