Cadbury’s involvement in the Fairtrade movement sets an example to other companies and businesses out there and proves that with a bit of work, any company can go Fairtrade. For some time Sadiq has been campaigning to promote Fairtrade in Tooting and to make Wandsworth a Fairtrade Borough. Sadly Wandsworth Council continue to block the attempts of Sadiq and the Wandsworth Fairtrade Group to achieve this. The excellent Fairtrade group in Wandsworth continues to organise events and to attract media attention. However, the struggle is set to continue as Conservative councillors refuse to ratify motions supporting Fairtrade. We must maintain a strong lead in this campaign. It is a sad fact that many of the people who provide us with luxuries like chocolate, do not earn enough money from their work to educate their children, or even have enough to feed their families. We cannot let this continue, we must campaign to show our support for these people. Fairtrade is a vital route out of poverty for millions of people across the globe and we should be embracing this opportunity. Take advantage of Fairtrade Fortnight, which ends this week; try some chocolate, coffee, washing up liquid, whatever you like! It’s all available in most supermarkets now. If you would like any more information on Fairtrade, visit: www.fairtrade.org.uk or go and see how excited Cadbury’s are about going Fairtrade at http://www.cadburydairymilk.typepad.com/?campaign_id=goftse. |

Sadiq was very happy to hear the news that Cadbury’s is going Fairtrade. By the end of summer 2009, Cadbury’s Dairy Milk will have Fairtrade certification.
