Today I'll be attending voting to force the government to release NHS Risk Register, in a special House of Commons debate. For months I've been calling for the Health Secretary to release the NHS Risk Register – an internal risk assessment of the impact the government’s NHS plans will have on the health service if implemented – and he has refused (you can read the letter I sent to him in November here). Despite a ruling from the Information Commissioner that this should be released, Andrew Lansley (the Health Secretary) has resorted to the courts in order to prevent the public seeing just how damaging his NHS reforms could be, delaying the release of the Risk Register. It is unacceptable to withold this information while the Bill is still before Parliament. Parliamentarians (and the public) should have all the facts about the impact these plans will have on the NHS. It’s vital the government is completely transparent on the impact these reforms will have on our NHS.
