Today (5th May) is the referendum on the voting system we use to elect Members of Parliament to the House of Commons.
We currently use the ‘First Past The Post’ system (FPTP) – the referendum will ask whether we want to keep this system, or change to the ‘Alternative Vote’ (AV) system. You can read more about the details of both systems on the Electoral Commission’s website here.
I’m voting ‘Yes’ – for a change from First Past The Post to the Alternative Vote.
There’s more information on my website here and at the ‘Labour Yes’ and ‘Yes to Fairer Votes’ campaigns.
It’s an important decision, so please make sure you get out and vote - polls are open until 10pm tonight. You can find more details about the referendum, how to vote and the location of your polling station here.
