Local Tories are trying to drag the election in Tooting down into the gutter.
The truth is they're desperate, and will do and say anything they can to try to win here in Tooting. They know they can't win in a positive and decent fashion, as they've got nothing to offer Tooting residents, so they're using every dirty trick they can to deceive and scare people into voting Tory. We've seen it before, with their attacks on local health services (see here), and scaremongering on changes to the freedom pass (see here). Now the election has started they've brought in a disgraced former spin doctor from Windsor & Maidenhead to help run their operation. As the Guardian reports: "And as further proof that you can't keep a bad man down, we bring the latest sighting of André Walker, the Conservative strategist who departed in disgrace from Windsor and Maidenhead just three weeks ago having been outed on YouTube plotting the political assassination of a party colleague. There he is, bolstering the campaign of Mark Clarke, the rightwinger seeking to oust transport minister Sadiq Khan in Tooting, south London. It's already a bare-knuckle contest there, with Clarke having been reprimanded by the local hospital for making questionable claims, and thus a man of Walker's experience, with his particular skill set, is to be welcomed. One assumes that by now he has learned the folly of disparaging fellow party members on the train." You can't believe a word they say. Further reading
