Last night Wandsworth Council's Planning Application Committee voted to refuse planning permission to re-develop the Springfield Hospital site.

This is a fantastic victory for the campaign to stop the development, and one that I have been proud to be a part of.

Local residents have come together, and with one voice said “NO”.

In the last year thousands of residents have written to me and to Wandsworth Council objecting to the plans and hundreds have been involved in old fashioned grass-roots campaigning – collecting petitions, attending public meetings and delivering leaflets.

Working together we have succeeded in convincing Wandsworth Council to listen to local residents and respect the strength of public opinion on this issue.

But it’s not over yet.

I have written to Judy Wilson, interim Chief Executive of the Springfield Hospital Trust not to appeal the decision.  I have asked the Trust to respect the overwhelming views of local residents.  In my letter I pointed out that we are not against any development of the Hospital, just against this ridiculous mega-development.

I have also asked the Trust to work with myself and local residents (as well as local councillors from both political parties on the Council) to create a Taskforce that will plan a sustainable and acceptable development to upgrade the facilities at Springfield Hospital.

Together we did it!

Remember, I’m here to help, whatever your politics.

Best wishes,

Sadiq
